Making a Movement: The History and Future of Human Rights

BKC Faculty Director Jonathan Zittrain and BKC Affiliate Bruce Schneier contribute to the Carr Center's Making a Movement: The History and Future of Human Rights, a collection of pieces reflecting on the intersection of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and global human rights.

"Figuring out when governments—to advance human rights—can and should push companies to shape their services differently, especially when the common balancing tests around speech give muddy results among multiple contesting individuals, is a difficult yet worthy problem," says Zittrain.

"The Internet isn't naturally compatible—or incompatible—with human rights. It's a disruptive technology that allows us as humans to either strengthen or diminish human rights," opines Schneier.
