In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, I am María Isabel Mejía—a pioneer with over four decades of leadership and innovation. My journey began as a Systems and Computer Engineer at Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia). Since then, I've been at the forefront of shaping the future of Information and Communication Technologies. I orchestrated Colombia's response to the Y2K challenge, was the visionary leader behind Computadores para Educar, and played a crucial role in the country's digital transformation as Vice Minister of Technologies and Information Systems. Beyond the public sphere, I co-founded tech ventures—Info Projects, CityScan, and PROA IA—driving innovative solutions for digital transformation. In the last four years, I served as a Senior Executive in the Digital Transformation Directorate at CAF -development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean-. Leading an initiative dedicated to promoting the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in Latin America and the Caribbean, I worked closely with ten governments in the region. Our efforts focused on designing national AI strategies and building capabilities to enable its successful implementation in governance, regulation, ethics, talent, data, and high-performance computing infrastructure. Joining the Berkman Klein Center as an affiliate, I am eager to infuse technology policy and innovation discourse with fresh perspectives.
