Maja Bogataj Jančič is the founder and executive director of the Open Data and Intellectual Property Institute ODIPI (www.odipi.si), an independent, non-profit educational and research institution based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Maja's work and research has recently focused on data governance and AI, especially copyright issues related to machine learning, data governance, open data and AI. Since June 2020, she has been co-chair of the Data Governance working group of the Global Association for Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) (www.gpai.ai). Maja has been a leading figure of Creative Commons Slovenia since 2004. She is a member and board member of Communia, an association that advocates for the expansion of the public domain and greater access and reuse of culture and knowledge. Maja is the national coordinator of the Knowledge Rights 21 project for Slovenia and regional coordinator for the Western Balkans and is running a training program on the copyright and open data framework that supports scientific research, education and the activities of cultural heritage institutions and open science in Slovenia. Her special interest is ethics in research and science. Maja organized a course on Internet and Law at the Law Faculty of Ljubljana back in 2002 and 2003 and is now organizing a school of Generative AI and Law in cooperation with the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Sciences of Information and Computing at the University of Ljubljana starting in winter 2023. Maja graduated from Ljubljana Law School (1996) and earned master's degrees from Ljubljana Law School (1999, Economics), Harvard Law School (2000, Law) and Turin Law School. Turin (2005, Intellectual Property) and PhD at the Ljubljana Law Faculty (2006, Copyright). She is the author of numerous publications in the field of intellectual property, copyright and Internet law. Maja is also founder and director of the Intellectual Property Institute (IPI) (www.ipi.si), an independent private and non-profit training and consulting institution. The IPI is affiliated participant in the Network of Centers (www. networkofcenters.net) and is accredited with permanent observer status with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
