Inês Vitorino is a Full Professor of Social Communication at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). She is also a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center at Harvard University. 

Inês received her PhD degree in Social Sciences at University of Campinas (UNICAMP), with a sandwich internship at Westfälische Wilhelms Universität Münster. She has a Master degree in Sociology and a bachelor degree in Social Sciences from UFC. She has been a visiting scholar at University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) and Ceara State University (UECE).   

Her research interests are focused on topics like digital inclusion, children and digital media, media literacy, children’s rights in the digital age, privacy and safety, advertising and the commercialization of childhood, and internet space for participation and civic engagement. Inês founded and co-directs the Childhood, Youth and Media Relations Research Lab (LabGRIM). She believes in listening and engaging children to promote inclusion and diversity in the Internet.   

She has advised the Brazilian government, the Commission for Science and Technology, Communication and Informatics (CCTCI) and the Human Rights and Minorities Commission, of the Chamber of Deputies, among others, on audiovisual content rating system, quality in Children's Public Television Programming and the regulation of advertising and marketing directed to children. She served as Vice-president of the National Association of Postgraduate Communication in Brazil (2013-2015). Since 2012, she collaborates as an Expert Advisor in two Projects at the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (CETIC.br), a UNESCO Regional Center in Brazil: ICT Kids Online Brazil and ICT in Education. Associated to her researches, she coordinates media literacy programs in public schools, NGOs and Cultural Centers, focusing on children and youth in poverty.
