David W. Opderbeck is Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology and Institute for Privacy Protection at Seton Hall University Law School. His work focuses on technology policy, cybersecurity, privacy, and intellectual property. His most recent work on artificial intelligence law and policy includes papers on the prospect of artificial “rights” and the use of artificial intelligence in medical devices. He holds law degrees from New York University Law School and Seton Hall University Law School and a Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham, along with the CIPP/US and CIPP/E certifications a number of cybersecurity certifications. Prior to his academic work, Professor Opderbeck was a Partner at McCarter & English, LLP. He continues to maintain a private law and consulting practice relating to technology, privacy, and civil rights.
