My research focuses on algorithmic decision-making systems in the criminal legal system. The focus of my work this year is how public sector algorithmic audits can fruitfully center community interests and the role of human discretion. I’m looking forward to developing a conceptual toolkit for human-centered, participatory auditing, and as a proof of concept, I aim to expand my previous community-informed research on the impacts of a recidivism risk assessment instrument in Pennsylvania.
