Don't Worry About Deepfakes. Worry About Why People Fall for Them.

Tim Hwang addresses the issue of Deepfakes — a set of technologies that could enable the creation of false but convincing footage of individuals saying and doing things they haven't done.

"There are good reasons to believe that deepfakes will not be a threat in the near future, and that they, in fact, may never pose a significant threat. Despite much-discussed fears about its use as a political weapon, the technology did not make an appearance in the pivotal U.S. midterm elections this year. I’m betting that it won’t make a significant appearance in the 2020 elections either.
