Digital Self-Determination Research Sprint

As our world becomes increasingly digitally networked, deeper examination and understanding are required on important dimensions of self-determination, from control over our personal data to self-expression, participation in civic life and the digital economy, relationship-building, and our health and well-being.

From March to May 2021, we co-hosted a virtual program that convened 25 student participants from 21 countries spread over six continents and paired them with Berkman Klein Center and Digital Asia Hub staff, Network of Center affiliates, and subject matter experts, to explore and examine digital self-determination.

Through engaging sessions with expert speakers and ongoing projects, participants engaged in critical dialogue about how to define and understand the problems and potential of digital self-determination.

This Research Sprint was part of the Ethics of Digitalization project led by the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG), the Berkman Klein Center, and the Digital Asia Hub, and in collaboration with the Global Network of Internet & Society Centers (NoC).
