Desktop Support Specialist

Description:
The Berkman Center is looking for technically inclined support staff with strong tech skills, ability to learn new technologies quickly, curiosity and willingness to tinker and solve odd technology problems.

15-20 hrs week during school year, opportunity for full-time employment over summer.  Pay commensurate with experience, starts at $11.50/hr.

Duties And Responsibilities:
Works as part of a team to insure technology support needs of world-class research fellows, staff, and faculty working on cutting-edge internet law and policy issues. Responsible for providing technical and troubleshooting in-person support to Berkman staff, faculty and students; refers technical issues to other staff when necessary.

Responsible for installation and maintenance of personal computers, peripherals, software and networking in public areas, faculty and staff offices.

Required Education, Experience and Skills:
Should have 2+ years' related experience or demonstrated ability in field, excellent customer service and communication skills; ability to take initiative, follow through with minimal supervision, and troubleshoot; flexible and able to shift priorities and assignments quickly; ability to work as part of a team; interest and ability to master new software and technology quickly and with minimal training.

Experienced with MS Windows XP and Apple OSX operating systems, MS Office software suite, e-mail clients.  Ability to troubleshoot network problems, install software, and setup new user accounts.  Comfortable with setting up blogs, using wikis, and editing web pages.  Interest in media software, running webcasts and videoconferences.  Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
