Reimagining Digital Identity: Designing for Better Futures in Times of Crisis

The Berkman Klein Center’s Fall 2022 Research Sprint on Digital Identity—cohosted by metaLAB, Edgelands Institute, and Access Now—will culminate in a final interactive event on Thursday, December 15th from 8:00-9:15 AM ET.

Throughout the sprint we have considered digital identity from multiple perspectives: starting with identity construction throughout history, later digging into what we can learn from hopepunk perspectives, hearing from local perspectives from across the world, and finally developing new understandings of potential ethical paths forward.  We’ve dug deeply into key issues including the particular risks of biometric identity tracking, the technological underpinning of self sovereign identity, and the dynamics and causes of differential access to resources. We’ve studied key constituents including government and policy makers, people in transition between physical and territorial boundaries, youth, and trans people.

For this final event, sprint organizers, speakers, and participants will highlight key ideas from across the program and be in active dialogue with attendees.
