Openness

• What sort of effect have NIH mandates, guidelines, or norms had on increasing or decreasing openness (i.e., a willingness to disclose data and narratives)

Collaboration

• What sort of informal networks exist between companies, universities, and investors, where data is shared for free? At what level of the value chain to they occur?
• In what sense are universities collaborators and in what sense are they competitors?

Incentives to patent

• What factors contribute to applying for a patent as opposed to simply publishing the findings? Do you ever patent products that you never plan to make money off of?
