Farkas and Holland. Direct-to-consumer genetic testing: two sides of the coin. The Journal of molecular diagnostics : JMD (2009) vol. 11 (4) pp. 263-5. [Accessed 14 Dec 2009: http://jmd.amjpathol.org/cgi/content/full/11/4/263]

The editorial declares:

  • that genetic counselors are essential when interpreting complex genetic health information, such as the results of DTC genomic tests.
  • Lab test results should only be generated using FDA approved / cleared tests or
  • developed and validated appropriately as a Laboratory Developed Test ("homebrew"?) performed in a CLIA lab.
