Accra to host AITEC WEST AFRICA 11-13 MAY 2004

AITEC 2004 - business-to-business networking and   intensive
knowledge-sharing platform.

The eighth annual West African Information and Communications Technologies
Conference and Exhibition (AITEC 2004) is scheduled to be held at the Accra
International Conference Centre (AICC), from 11th to13th May 2004 under the
auspices of Ministry of Communications and Technology, Ghana

The theme of AITEC 2004 is " Building Public- Private Partnership and
Creating Opportunities Through ICT ". The conference will focus on the need
for private and the public sector to work in synergy to maximize the whole
spectrum of opportunities available in the ICT space around the sub region
and beyond.


Conference

The most distinguished feature of West Africa's exclusive ICT event - AITEC
WEST AFRICA, will be its conference. As a key intensive knowledge-sharing
platform, the two day conference is designed to provide key decision makers
with a better understanding of the latest market trends, product demands and
enable them acquire information and knowledge required for their day-to-day
operations and strategic planning.

The workshop sessions will address various aspects of corporate information
and knowledge strategy, formulation and implementation of business
communications system, leadership and entrepreneurial skills required to
facilitate smoother operations in a flexible manner.
With a key people focus, AITEC WEST AFRICA 2004 conference will answer the
growth and development needs of individuals as they work to cope with the
increasing demands of the ICT sector at both the local and global level.

 AITEC 2004 conference will be addressed by eminent experts drawn from key
sectors of the ICT industry with the appropriate practical insight.


Exhibition

AITEC WEST AFRICA 2004 expo will showcase future technologies and
innovations, which respond to West Africa's ICT sector growth, and
development needs. The exhibition is expected to bring together technology
companies from India, USA, Canada, Africa and Europe.
In light of the importance of ICT for development, a pavilion is to be
devoted at AITEC WEST AFRICA 2004, portraying effective use of ICT for
socio-economic development using a people centered approach.


1st ICT Awards

The fast growing ICT sector in West Africa is driven by a dedicated and
committed set of key individuals and organisations, providing leadership
skills required for growing and sustaining the industry. To recognise
excellence from these leaders, the ICT sector will organise the first ever
Information and Communications Technologies Award Gala Night on Saturday
15th may 2004. It is will be an evening celebrating the success of ICTs in
West Africa as a whole and Ghana in particular.

State of ICTs in Ghana

A key component of the opening ceremony of AITEC WEST AFRICA 2004 will be
the Launch of State of ICT in Ghana Report detailing general ICT environment
and conditions with a sharp focus on key drivers of the sector plus growth
area opportunities.

2ND Forum on ICT and Development (ICT4D)

Following the success of the first National forum on ICT and Development,
AITEC plans to host a similar forum during this year's event scheduled for
Thursday 13th of May 2004. The forum will debate lessons learnt and future
prospects in the area of ICT4D.

AITEC 2004 will attract ICT professionals and managers, key decision makers,
resellers, innovators, civil society and development workers, and
policy-makers around the globe.
