It's expensive. We're running our firewall on a Linux box in Accra and our
choices for support are limited and therefore expensive. Everyone's climbing
up the learning curve as fast as they can and it will be popular, but right
now it's the early adopters that are paying the high fees for such
specialist consultants. From a purely economic perspective, unless an outfit
has an aggressive in-house IT manager that's willing to readup and learn how
to run the machine, I'd avoid it or be prepared to pay.

In an article published by LinuxToday volounteer Michael Taylor asks if
Linux is right for Africa. Taylor is going to Ghana in two weeks to set up
IT solutions for schools and clinics. He is now seeking advice whether to
use an open or propietary solution to the African IT needs. Taylor is
anxious not to sacrifice the Ghana children on the shrine of the free
software principle and is looking for input on this issue.
