[h2o-discuss] who owns the moon?

hope everyone has been well and busy.

i can't help posting this followup to my previous
moonshine piece:

(free registration required)

quite a few tektites or meteorites are known to
be pieces of the moon or of Mars that were knocked
off by impacts and landed on earth. i wonder if
the U.S. government will make their discoverers
turn them in to govt ownership, or else prove that
they were not brought back by U.S. resources?

and what happened to that international space treaty?
how can the US govt claim ownership of something that
is supposed to be beyond ownership? sounds like
more moonshine to me.
