Rebecca Weiss

Rebecca Weiss is the Director of Data Science at Mozilla. She is primarily interested in how the news affects the political and economic attitudes, opinions, and knowledge of the consuming public. While pursuing her Ph.D. at Stanford University, her research combined traditional social science perspectives on news media effects with computational methods of analysis, specifically from areas relevant to large-scale text analysis such as natural language processing, information retrieval, visualization and knowledge management. Rebecca is also interested in the advent of tools that implement these methods for common uses by non-technical people, particularly for computational journalism applications. Before Stanford, Rebecca received an S.M. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.A. from the University of British Columbia.
