Jeffrey Huang

Jeffrey Huang is the Director of the Media x Design Laboratory at EPFL Switzerland where he is a Full Professor in the Department of Architecture and in the Faculty of Computer and Communication Sciences.

His research examines the convergence of physical and virtual environments. Recent projects include “Superstudio,” an investigation of authorship, versioning, representation issues in the digital design studio; “Organicity,” an exploration of novel, code-driven design methods; and “Cityrank,” an experiment with bottom-up/crowdsourced rankings.

In partnership with Muriel Waldvogel, he is co-counder and principal of Convergeo, an international design firm, whose recent projects include a physical/virtual consulate in Cambridge, a digital agora in Washington DC, and a series of newscocoons in Beijing.

Prior to founding the Media x Design Lab at EPFL, he was a faculty member at the Harvard University's Graduate School of Design (GSD), and Harvard College/Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). He was also a Visiting Fellow at Stanford University's d.school, and Designer-in-Residence at Fuji Xerox Palo Alto Research Lab.

A native of Rome, Italy, and a Swiss citizen of Chinese origins, Huang received his DiplArch from ETHZ and his Master's and Doctoral degrees from Harvard, where he was awarded the Gerald McCue Medal.
