  • Events Series on the Collaborative Internet Governance Ecosystem:
    • May 22, 2014, hosted by the ICT Law Institute at Bilgi University, Istanbul: Moving Towards a Collaborative Internet Governance Ecosystem: Contributions by the Academic Community and Next Steps: At this meeting, we plan to discuss concrete possibilities and ideas on how academic research in general and the Network of Centers in particular can inform the debate around actual and potential transitions in Internet governance, many of which are currently being debated at the NETmundial Multistakeholder Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance. While a public panel will focus on "multistakeholder governance" under participation of Turkish and international experts, we plan to devote the lager part of the day to closed working meetings amongst NoC participants.

    • April 22, 2014, hosted by the Rio Institute for Technology (ITS) in collaboration with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi), Berlin: Brazil-Germany Meeting on Internet Governance, São Paulo, Brazil: In preparation for NETmundial, the Global Multistakeholder Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance, with support from the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI-Br) and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC, this meeting will address Internet governance principles and a roadmap for a further evolution of the ecosystem. The meeting will be divided into a closed morning session under the participation of Brazilian and German representatives and stakeholders, and an afternoon session that will be open to the public. The closed morning session will address such questions as: (a) How can the Brazilian model for Internet Governance inform the global Internet Governance debates? What can be learnt specifically from examples such as the Marco Civil and the Brazilian Internet Steering Comittee?; (b) What are key elements of the German debate on internet governance, privacy, and security and how can they inform global debates?; (c) How can Brazil and Germany cooperate on the path towards a new framework for Internet Governance?; (d) How can Brazil and Germany cooperate with and involve other countries whilst pursuing the goal of enhancing Internet Governance? What is the role of the jointly proposed and approved UN Resolution in this context.

    • April 25-26, hosted by the Center for Technology and Society of FGV Law School Rio de Janeiro (CTS/FGV) and the Research Group on Law and Innovation of FGV Law School São Paulo: Academic Roundtable on Multistakeholder Internet Governance Models, Mechanisms, and Issues, São Paulo, Brazil Immediately following NETmundial, this roundtable will address the following goals: (a) to develop a synthesis of discussions following the Brazil conference, which could contribute to efforts aimed at channeling the outcomes from the Brazilian meeting into the overall WSIS review process; (b) to reflect on possible frameworks for Internet Governance and evaluate them against widely accepted principles (e.g. the need to preserve the interoperability and stability of the Internet); (d) to foster the convergence between academics in the area of social science and technology; and (e) to identify gaps for further research in the field.
