While awareness and self defense can help empower women to defend against sexual assault, it is also important to provide to those who have been victimized the help and support that they will require. There are many resources that offer free and immediate assistance for sexual assault victims. One can call 1-800-799-SAFE (National Domestic Violence Hotline) or 1-800-656-HOPE (for RAINN - Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.) RAINN's hotline is operated 24 hours a day, and routes each call instantaneously to the rape crisis center nearest the caller by reading the first area code and prefix of the caller's telephone number. All centers on the network provide counseling and support, and each call is confidential.
