The Principles of Distributed Innovation

Abstract:

Distributed innovation systems are an approach to organizing for
innovation that seems to meet the challenge of accessing knowledge that
resides outside the boundaries of any one organization. We provide an
overview of distributed innovation systems that are achieving success
in three different industries. We explore why people participate, the
organizing principles of production, and the implications for
intellectual property policy. Finally, the potential extensions and
limitations of this alternative model of innovation are considered.

Breaking Down Digital Barriers: When and How ICT Interoperability Drives Innovation

Interoperability, like openness, is something that we generally think
of as a "good thing" in the context of information and communications
technologies (ICTs). One of the reasons why we tend to like
interoperability is that we believe it leads to innovation, as well as
other positive things like consumer choice, ease of use, and
competition.

The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It

Book Description, from Amazon:

This extraordinary book explains the engine that has catapulted the Internet from backwater to ubiquity—and reveals that it is sputtering precisely because of its runaway success. With the unwitting help of its users, the generative Internet is on a path to a lockdown, ending its cycle of innovation—and facilitating unsettling new kinds of control.
