Introduction

Welcome to the "Introduction to the Internet" component of Intellectual Property in Cyberspace.  We are offering this component this year, so that participants can brush up on some of the technology and terminology of the Internet before having to apply that knowledge in an intellectual property context.  It is our goal to provide enough information so that you may comfortably participate in the remainder of the session.

We understand that everyone will be coming from differing backgrounds and levels of technical ability, and so have endeavored to provide a range of information, from the very basic, to the more technical in nature.  Do not, however, expect to become an expert in the Internet or Internet technology from this orientation.  For those who wish to learn more about a particular topic, we have provided links for further study, but such further study will not be necessary for the purposes of this session.

This orientation is largely self-directed; please go through it at your own pace.  The information in this orientation will remain available to you as a reference throughout the remainder of the session.  Use the "Next" and "Back" functions below to navigate your way through the primer. You may also return to any topic at a later time simply by returning to the home page or the index page and clicking on the image next to the topic of your choice.  Press the right arrow below to continue.
