In today's interconnected world, threats to national security have grown to include cyberthreats -- attempts to access the sensitive data, electronic infrastructure, and resources stored on America's computers. Such plots can originate from a variety of sources and take a variety of forms -- from ad hoc efforts of individual hackers, to campaigns waged by terrorist cells, to “cyber espionage” initiatives undertaken by nation states.
Join Assistant Attorney General for National Security HLS alumnus and Heyman Fellow John Carlin, together with moderator Jonathan Zittrain, for a conversation about significant national security cyber issues and the tools available in the United States to address them. Mr. Carlin will share his expertise and field questions from the audience.
Mr. Carlin has dedicated his entire professional career to public service, both as a prosecutor and in a variety of leadership positions. Mr. Carlin joined NSD in 2011 after serving as Chief of Staff and Senior Counsel to former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, III, where he helped lead the Bureau’s evolution to meet growing and changing national security threats, including cyber threats. As Assistant Attorney General, Mr. Carlin oversees nearly 350 federal employees responsible for protecting the nation against terrorism, espionage, cyber, and other significant national security threats. He also works closely with the nation’s 93 United States Attorneys in the investigation and prosecution of national security matters in their districts.
