Sonya Song

Sonya Song is a Ph.D. candidate in media and information at Michigan State University. She enjoys studying social sciences through computational approaches. Her ongoing research projects include Internet policy, social media and their impact, and technological innovations across newsrooms.

Sonya holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in computer science from Tsinghua University in Beijing and master of philosophy in journalism from the University of Hong Kong. Also, she has taken various positions in media and IT industries. Prior to the Berkman Fellowship, she was awarded a Google Policy Fellowship in 2012 and worked with the Boston Globe as a Knight-Mozilla OpenNews fellow in 2013. Sonya is also an avid photographer, a film buff, and a devotee of literature.
