Berkman Fellows in the News
March 31, 2004
The Economist recently enlisted the help of
Michael Best, Berkman Center Fellow and head of the
eDevelopment group at MIT's Media Lab, in its piece, "Beyond the Digital Divide." The story identified an emerging trend of big businesses cashing in on the collective buying power of poor communities in countries like Brazil and Ghana. Best explained that the challenges for a "would-be rural entrepreneur" lie in implementation, given that developing nations often require ICT infrastructure to take advantage of emerging technologies. The same
Economist issue (March 13, 2004) discusses the rise of business-blogging and asks if bloggers are really a "second superpower" -- an idea previously advanced in the paper, "S
econd Superpower Rears its Beautiful Head," by Berkman Fellow
Jim Moore.
