Gavin Punishment for Microsoft (5:12:34 PM, in-room, #559)  One rationale for antitrust action against Microsoft might be that it did in fact engage in prohibited activities which harmed consumers and competitors in the past. With a sufficiently severe spanking, Microsoft might think twice about attempting similar behavior in this new space. |

Gavin Things would have been different (5:39:06 PM, in-room, #561) IBM's OS/2 Warp was vastly superior to Windows 95 in a number of ways, and beat Windows 95 to market by 6 months. If IBM had given OS/2 Warp away for free when they had the chance, the competitive landscape would be entirely different. It would have been probable that we would have a duopoly of operating systems for the PC (and now a "tri-opoly" with Linux on the scene). |
