<RobJuneau> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:50) "...or inaccurate"
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:50) No scribed notes yet either; essential blind and deaf here.
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:52) Notice the error points to yesterdays file (11/15)
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:52) just got back- does anyone have video/audio?
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:52) (good morning, btw :))
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:52) gm, none denise
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:53) Hi - Salve
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:54) Am I late? What's going on - no sound, no video, ... ?
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:54) --almost back -- have frozen video & frozen scribe
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:55) I have vid via primary (56k). can not get the dual pane
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:55) brb
<weikers> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:55) Good morning all. Any sense of which (if any) TLDs will be approved?
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:55) the secondary (28k) is pointing to yesterday's file; so is giving an error of outdated link
<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:55) I couldn't get the dual pane so adjusted the link to today's link in a separate RealPlayer and clicked on the scribe notes link separately
<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:56) I actually think I might like it better this way.
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:56) Ben must be setting up - lots of file not found
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:56) Dena - come again?
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:56) thx dena- that worked for me too
<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:57) Judith I copied the link into my realplayer and changed the 5 to a 6
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:59) okay, did the separate vid & sep notes & that works
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:59) Separate video and notes works. Pictures clearer too.
<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 10:59) Only bad thing is these windows don't seem to be resizeable
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:00) Does anyone have any scribed notes yet?
<RobJuneau> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:01) not me
<FranciscaMedina> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:01) nop
<RNesson> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:02) All video feeds should now be working properly.
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:02) RN - is the primary 56k rebooting?
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:03) Rebecca, the link for 28K vid & notes is still outdated; just tried again after your message
<_r> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:03) primary 56k is working fine here
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:03) they must've ran out of bandwidth
<RNesson> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:03) No. They are all working properly now. We have not run out of bandwidth.
<RNesson> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:03) Please try the feeds again.
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:04) (sorry - i was referring to Eschelon Telecommunications
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:04) No, different error
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:04) i have scribe
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:09) Working now, Rebecca. Thanks.
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:11) What does the resolution say?
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:12) my ISP has given up some bandwidth - amazing what one phone call can do!
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:14) So its 30 days public comments whether to go forward or not, or just if that's how to go forward with the study, or what?
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:14) (I lost sound)
<RobJuneau> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:15) (i lost everything but chat)

<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:18) did they just vote to keep all current directors?

<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:33) Hi Simon
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:33) Live from the loony bin...
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:33) They're even more frightening in person ;-)
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:34) lol simon
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:34) ?? no .web ??
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:34) Yes Vint Cerf
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:34) Excellent
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:35) sounds like Mr Cerf is looking for reasons to approve IOD
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:35) go cerf
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:35) thanks Vint
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:35) He is the most technically efficent
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:35) "and the winner for 'best supporting application' is..."
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:35) lol
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:36) Keep talking about IOD and show they have rights!
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:37) They will do it within 30 -60 days if not sooner
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:37) Ambler
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:37) who is this I don't think he read the application
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:37) That's a lie! They are a "thick" registry model
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:37) I got kicked again ... what I miss?
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:37) talking about IOD
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:38) mistaken, but good
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:38) He isn't taking into account that Ambler said he would do it within 30-60 days
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:38) I think they just sancitoned IOD and it's registrants RIGHTS
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:38) my scribe is not up to date!
<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:38) I understood it that way too JDS
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:38) sanctioned
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:38) :(
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:39) they are still hanging up on the $35 price too
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:39) Chris said that was negotiable
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:39) se having afilias and nuestar trying to take .web had a benefit since it proves that .web is most marketable
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:39) I think Vint Cerf Likes IOD I really do
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:39) So $35 is too high but $2000 isn't
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:40) crazy, huh?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:40) look at .TV
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:40) let the market decide
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:40) that right; the market decides
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:40) how anyone can haggle over $35 when $1000's are spent developing sites is beyond me
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:40) if applicants get only three minutes so should the staff who reviewed these apps Lol
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:40) oh... but ICANN knows better than the market whats good for us ; )
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:41) Vint had a problem yesterday with low priced domains
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:41) what is affinity?
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:41) MCI can't make enough money for his retirement!
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:41) The company that wants to charge $2000 for .BIZ
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:41) people would want it for free. I mean come on $35 is not going to take foor off someones table
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:42) low priced domain names, allow for folks using perl, unix, and apache to have afforadable web site.... not every one spends big bucks on a web site.
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:42) I charge $6.00 for .biz
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:42) agreed - JD
<RobJuneau> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:43) yes, yes, and yes jd
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:43) Why do you think you a here My GOD
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:43) .Shop
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:44) OMG
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:44) Let Hundreds come out who cares
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:44) ICANN is being human today
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:44) lol dave
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:44) I am in shock
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:45) I have to tell you some of these people aren't that informed that is scary if someone with ulterior motives has gotten their ear
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:45) agreed jds
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:46) like K Stubbs. I will say this again after he gets what he wants he will soon resign as his position is just a tool
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:46) well, he's learned to use that tool pretty well, eh?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:46) Congress is awakening , it should get intertesting
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:47) Yes, I've personally spoken to two congressmen yesterday.
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:47) Really?
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:47) really
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:47) I find this unbelievable that they aren't sure how many to pick this should have been done in July
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:48) maybe Karl's speech helped to open their minds?
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:48) where have these people been????????????????
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:48) sounds like they are discussing asomething over a beer, Like what do you think lol
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:48) Counld any of them other than Cerf ... even find the current .web or .biz if they tried?
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:49) that would be a NO Judith
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:49) remember when Stubbs wouldn't answer Ambler about the consensus of working group c
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:50) I don't mean to criticize but some of these people haven't much of a clue , it is very surprising
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:50) first we should.. but before that we'll... only in advance of that lets... and prior to that we should..
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:50) It's SCARY
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:50) That's a good criteria for choosing TLD's ... how much time ICANN staff has to spend babysitting them...
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:50) and again what are we doing here today?
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:50) really, I think they have illustrated to the netizen community quite effectivly that they are not a part of our community
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:50) it's like lets do 50 no lets do 10 like no big deal LoL
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:50) lol judith
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:51) I think they're proving out Karls comments from yesterday - all that money and no work product
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:51) indeed
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:51) vint just woke up
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:51) the less they approve, the more $50K fees they collect in the next round of applications
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:51) It might actually mean their are some good people on this board but they are shielded by some others in the organization
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:51) thank you Vint
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:52) Competition
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:52) Vint Cerf will be Chairmen
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:52) That was made clear a few days ago, someone asked if "carrot" TLD's (those "we might choose later") would have to pay again, answer was "depends on ICANN's cost of recovery needs" or some such thing.
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:52) Competition should = NSI allotment
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:52) He blew that
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:52) NSI should live with NONE
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:53) Sorry JDS?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:53) Cerf wants to let em Fl;y
<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:53) One TLD per applicant unless, of course, that applicant is 'involved' in multiple applications?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:53) what Giorgio
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:53) NSI should live...?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:54) I wish ICANN would address hoarding expired domains by NSI
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:54) Vint Cerf is the leader here?
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:54) We don't need leader
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:54) Do you remember?
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:55) We are on the net
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:55) VC represents what a netizen might understand --
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:55) within the members of the board. That is my impression
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:55) esther hasn't figured out competition either
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:55) must have missed that class at harvard
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:55) lol
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:55) Ester doesn't have a home computer
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:55) "morning" all
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:55) IOD has proved there concept
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:56) Evening here
<Leah-TLDlobby> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:56) Vint Cerf is no friend to tLDs, really. He's deceptive
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:56) You know moree about this than me but I figured I would be nicer for a change LOL
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:56) ben - i don't know if you remember my comment yesterday about the scribing of ken when he was presenting for idomains - if you do, sorry. it bothered me afterwards. i was wrong, and did not intend to criticize you.
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:56) shoot- lost webcast
<DavidCorish> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:57) Tell Esther Dyson .WEB desired by small business, not her concern.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:57) They should know so much already!!!
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:57) evening giorgio - same here. 8pm.
<RNesson> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:57) The webcast is still functioning properly. Anyone having difficulties may want to simply try again.
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:57) Are they looking here?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:57) Many of us herte know more than most of these directors
<DavidCorish> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:57) Tell Cerf Dunn & Bradstreet not good barometer to measure viable "business".
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:58) thx RN- i did get it back
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:58) agreed JDS
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:58) Are they here, with us?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:58) I think Stubbs and his faction are the ones who give ICANN it'sd bad face?
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:59) I'm glad to know that they don't know what they are doing either
<DavidCorish> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:59) Thanks to Oscar Cisneros for yesterday's concern.
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 11:59) WHY ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT STRINGS?
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:00) THEY ARE CONFUSING ME
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:00) Until now, I thought it was just me who didn't know what they were doing
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:00) I THOUGHT WE WERE DISCUSSING TLDs
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:00) they're calling them strings
<YangWooKo> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:00) aren't they ?
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:00) tld strings - sequences of alphanumeric characters
<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:00) They are determining whether they are approving particular TLDs OR if they are approving application/registries.
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:00) he chopping trees down now
<RobJuneau> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:00) one gets that tantalizing impression from time to time, giorgio.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:00) What worries me is that they will take the Staff report as gospel when it is very flawed and biased
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:01) the question is "do we approve a '.web' and then decide which one, or do we approve an application, and then decide which of several TLDs they can run"
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:01) jds i did not get that impression yesterday
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:01) Sorry?
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:01) if they are as clueless as they appear, they will most likely lean on the staff report
<RobJuneau> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:01) are they here?
<DavidCorish> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:01) Obviously, at least some board members did not read apps.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:01) That worries me
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:01) very worrisome
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:01) That was a Stubbs and company project LOL
<JEANPOLLY> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:02) Roberts has it wrong - new TLDs is more like PLANTING forests
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:02) wgc was 6-10
<YangWooKo> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:02) no
<YangWooKo> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:03) no consensus
<DavidCorish> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:03) Roberts has his head in the sand about a lot of things.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:03) sounds like policy to me
<JEANPOLLY> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:03) Didn't anyone see The Matrix? There is no basket.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:03) that is your JOB
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:04) notice Cerf does not referr to TLDs as strings ---
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:04) Judge each one individually, I don't like these pre-concieved parameters
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:04) Cerf: don't forget to review who has pioneer's preference
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:04) are those earmuffs?
<YangWooKo> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:05) i agree wit jds
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:05) Mr Kyong is more worried that he will spend to much time and miss dinner
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:05) he's listening to napster
<DavidCorish> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:05) No, Cerf may be hard of hearing, and he wears headset.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:05) lol
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:05) ah, thank you
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:05) Competition YES
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:06) but he is listening to napster
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:06) "a space in the ontology of what domain names mean"
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:06) ???
<DavidCorish> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:06) If Cerf listens to Napster, than probably not Metallica.
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:06) and nothing else matters
<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:07) Does she really mean "domain names" or "TLDs"?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:07) I think some of these directors would be more in touch just reading the public comments board
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:07) how about already in operation Schink?
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:07) grr
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:07) agreed JDS
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:07) that's the problem, they read them and think that's it
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:07) give this guy a basket of apples from that apple grove
<DavidCorish> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:08) Directors don't seem to care enough to read comment board. After yesterday, I'm not convinced they read applications!
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:08) click here to add to basket
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:08) I also do not feel they read the applications completely or at all
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:08) I don't think they read much of the applications either - probably had the staff read them and are basing their decisions off the staffs
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:08) They should have made this decision in Yokohama but I guess thewy wanted many to spend 50k to apply
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:08) vint is pushing iod again
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:09) perhaps they'll deconstruct right thru the floor
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:09) Well??
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:09) hello?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:09) Who is this discrediting IOD he doesn't have a clue
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:10) Interplanetary internet?
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:10) I'm in the room and just got bounced
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:10) Why doid we all get kicked out of chat
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:10) so did i
<JEAN> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:10) me too
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:10) i missed it - how was IOD discredited?
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:10) it happens... life and the internet are imperfect
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:11) IOD 's application is complete, you are ill informed
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:11) Thousand and thousand...???
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:11) vint implied that it was a single registrar model, nothing to get excited about
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:11) Esther is no likely to do business online anyway - she has no computer!!!
<AnthonyGallagher> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:11) They are going to discuss IOD after Afinity. The chap with are muffs has an issue with IOD because they think IOD is the sole regestrar fro one year.
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:12) Ambler has already changed that... weren't they listening?
<sa> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:12) "chap with muffs" ?!?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:12) Vint Cerf gives the impression thaT iod SHOULD HAVE IT
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:12) Rebecca, my scribe is stuck at #14
<sa> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:12) qquaint
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:12) nobody is perfect.... no reason to fly off the handle at every word here...
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:12) YOU ARE RIGHT
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:12) <-- connection troubles. won't apolgise each time i leave and return.
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:12) Yes folks, Vint Cerf is wearing a hearing aid
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:13) wb foolstop
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:13) I think it is Mr Schink who doesn't like IOD ?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:13) Ken's basket how approprioate
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:14) attention daytraders - watch that basket and fire up e-trade on your othe window

<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:16) Welcome Michael
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:16) Why are they so concerened with JVTEAM?
<AnthonyGallagher> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:16) Really, you'd think that some of these points would have been planned before hand! They should at least know what the plan is.
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:16) Michael hi
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:16) SUMMER VILLA I guess LOL

<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:18) In reading the chat logs, you will see that most of us stood by everything you said at the meeting, Micheal
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:18) i'm back; but excuse me whilie I call Eschelon -- again

<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:19) i think the scribe got sick and filled their own basket...
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:19) lol
<rlm> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:19) oh my scribe just started to work
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:19) IOD can handle it they have done far more than most
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:19) agree JDS
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:19) Who is this director that is talking?
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:20) Did they decide ad hoc filling of the basket or reviewal of each in order?
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:20) IOD implemented a new TLD - others just sat around talking about it
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:20) It's not a director, its staff
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:20) what about 5 years of commitment and operation
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:20) what are they saying; i have no sound and scribe is stuck
<MichaelFroomkin> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:20) tech problem: scribe pane has frozen.
<AnthonyGallagher> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:20) IOD is getting toasted
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:20) .WEB is awesome that is why afilias and neustar are seeking to steal it
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:20) scribe is back, close and open
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:21) agreed JDS
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:21) Mr Cerf you better talk to Congress they aren't happy about this afilias
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:21) ARRGHH
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:21) "and the winner for 'best application for .web special effects is......"
<Lewco> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:21) later IOD
<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:21) When NSI charged $100 for a 2 year registration that seemed aggressive enough in terms of results...
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:21) what happened to competition??
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:21) surprise!
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:21) Goodbye IOD hello lawsuit?
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:21) lol JDS- looks that way
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:22) chris is fuming a few rows in front of me
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:22) more like goodbye ICANN hello opensrs
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:22) You can't blame him he has bput his heart and soul into this for 5 years
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:22) thanks esther - first actual debating point of the day...
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:22) I say the public can decide, by ajusting their systems to keep IOD for .web and ignor whom ever gets it from this committe.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:23) This isn't technical, this is POLITICS
<rlm> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:23) agreed
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:23) agreed
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:23) who is this guy?
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:23) jd we all know that won't happen
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:23) Yeah RIGHT
<KevinAllen> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:24) she said no longer a monopoly? is she smoking crack?
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:24) "think hard about this"
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:24) it is a IRON FIST
<AnthonyGallagher> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:24) So was that the entire IOD discussion?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:24) NSI is hoarding expired domains what arte they thinking even discussing them
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:25) right - competition. ty esther... or is she covering her proverbial?
<Lewco> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:25) neutral?

<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:25) I got booted; a quick summary of what happened, please?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:25) yeah being at the beck and call of NSI
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:25) so they can be as efficient as ICANN
<JEAN> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:25) Is scribe at 14?
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:25) IODs been summarily dismissed... theyre discussing Afilias

<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:26) NO SHIT
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:26) IOD was dismissed, officially?
<Richard_Sexton> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:26) I see we're "technically coordinating" again
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:26) a SUMMER VILLA awaits
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:26) he

<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:26) he's doing everything he can to shoot IOD down
<DeniseNiber> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:26) the writings on the wall
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:26) and praise NSI
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:26) if this wasn't so serious it would be comical
<AnthonyGallagher> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:26) They seemed to reply on the staff reports.
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:27) Afilias is just a collection of ma and pa businesses
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:27) what gary?

<JoannaLane> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:27) i agree JDS
<YangWooKo> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:27) but it's not easy to be discussed again ?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:27) Congress is awakening
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:27) esther questions whether afilias is a move in the direction of competition
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:28) only because NSI claims that IOD can't get the softwar ready in time
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:28) very good question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:28) I can see the rope tightening around the ICANN neck, ala judicial review
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:28) no yang, this is a tentative exercise in filling a basket proposed by ken
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:28) objectivelyt speaking this doesn't require thought
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:28) to add in the other registrars
<JoannaLane> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:28) where's the consideration to public opinion?

<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:29) Why does ICANN think they can award a .web to someone other than IOD without infringing IOD's rights?
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:29) I haven't a clue JDS
<Jean-MichelBecar> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:29) Because IOD have no rights on .web

<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:31) Hey Murai, it's supposed to be competition "at the registry and registrar level"
<Richard_Sexton> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:31) do you think Postel would wear a tux and bow tie? Hell, I'm not even sure he'd wear shoes.

<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:46) no as long as they are talking about IOD it is a start
<Lewco> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:46) IOD isnt even in the basket
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) IOD has a right to be a $85/domain registry/registrar and live/die by the market
<RayFassett> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) great example
<Lewco> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) lets start our lawsuit now please
<YangWooKo> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) number of new tlds is not fixed yet, Kevin
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) PUT IOD in the basket

<NobuoSakiyama> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) (Java applet for scribe notes is unstable on my machine, so I simply joined #Scribe to get realtime scribe notes. This works fine).
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) take the sharp objects away from Chris!
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) let
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) Hey ICANN why dopn't you come to my house and rob me
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) shoplift .web and run out if the store
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) let's go to court, and visit the pres candidates too
<LeeMickalson> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) So much for the public. I guess we don't mean a thing to these people.
<KevinAllen> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) public hangings are still legal right? lol
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:47) Cerf please pick it back up for IOD
<KevinAllen> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:48) YEA!
<Richard_Sexton> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:48) keep the day job vint
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:48) no, the iod/afilias thing will be visited again later today
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:48) if IOD does not get .web; then only the .dir should be allowed
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:48) That was a damning comment by Kraaj
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:48) IN SECRET then we are really dooomed
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:48) notice how much easier they all talk now, now that they've kissed up to afilias
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:48) it was marcia... very scathing
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:49) And unbelievable
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:49) Someone should have said "I can't believe afilias was even allowed to apply"
<GiorgioViali> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:49) hi
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:49) marcie will be talking to Congress LOL
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:49) Start with the technical side, what a concept
<MatthewPappas> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:49) Afilias is such a lovely warm fuzzy name. Who couldn't love it?
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:49) I missed it, what did Kraaj say?
<LeeMickalson> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) These people should be in a jail not on a board.
<Lewco> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) They are all HAPPY now - got that BRIBERY out of the way
<Richard_Sexton> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) why is vint asking these questions? Hasn't he actually READ the applications?
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) That IOD goes against everything ICANN has worked for for two years
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) I can hear the cash registers ringing from here!
<Richard_Sexton> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) two years of "technical coordinaton" ?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) ICANN should be ashamed
<RayFassett> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) that's what I've been wondering for two days now, Richard.....
<Richard_Sexton> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) It's important to remember that DOC, not ICANN re-engineered NSI.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) we are the internet Hear us
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:50) JDS - these are the type of people who do not feel shame
<Lewco> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:51) how come no one mentioned that KEN STUBBS is chairman of the NAMES committee and also represents Afilias?????
<Richard_Sexton> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:51) ICANN did *nothing*
<AnthonyGallagher> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:51) I think there are enough insider deals to suggest that the process was unfair.
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:51) agreed Anthony
<MatthewPappas> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:51) ditto
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:51) I knew deep inside that this would happen. I want litigation or Congress involved
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:51) Those who know me can now appreciate why I focus on that foxy lady ester - nothing else they do is worth while.
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:51) cute Joe
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:51) but beyond nerds like us and the occasional article from theregister.co.uk etc, who's caring, anthony?
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:52) Richard/Ray, its been clear to me he didn't read the completed apps, or even the application questionnaire ... he was as unfamiliar with the questions the Staff Report answered, as he is with the individual applications.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:52) Why is TOUTON playing such a prominent role when he is jsut the General Counsel
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:52) touton.god
<JoannaLane> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:52) i care and you don't even know me
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:52) touton is an icann staffer and iana staffer
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:52) for the upcoming litigation JDS
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:52) POLITICS nothing more
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:52) Because Touton is the power behind the throne
<Richard_Sexton> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:52) touton.ibm
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) touton.in.court
<JEAN> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) that's what we want- 10,000 to flower
<Richard_Sexton> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) touton.disbarred
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) kraaj is ignoring their stated preference!
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) Picture esther sitting on the throne ... Louis is the throne ... in a certain context, makes an interesting visual.
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) lol
<BenjaminEdelman> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) Folks, please remember to keep the discussion on topic.
<YangWooKo> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) yep
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) They would effectively put IOD out of business if they allow another .web. It is as if they stole our money direct
<MatthewPappas> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) sure, anderson consulting can't be bought....
<BenjaminEdelman> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) See the introduction message ("civil discourse" section) if you're unsure as to the parameters of this space.
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:53) we're doing as well as they are
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:54) touton.in.jail
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:54) So who's reading Chris' comments?
<AnthonyGallagher> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:54) so is it all over for Image Online?
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:54) why didn't IOD get this kind of correct coverage????
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:54) Judith - woof woof - Ester bouncing up and down on touton is not the greatest picture I can imagine - she can ride my roller coaster any time and so can touton
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:54) This is like getting the radio show host to read your commercial ...
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:54) ICANN doesn't follow the rules why should anyone else lol
<BenjaminEdelman> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:54) Baptista, this is you first warning. Your last comment is inappropriate for this forum.

<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:55) chris didn't think that was funny
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:55) No technical coordination NOT policy
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:55) promote diversity....read give it all to NSI
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:55) Touton is the plant of IP interests, follow the money, and you'll understand what ICANN is about
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:55) Ben, was that directed toward me? Sorry, I got carried away ... my apologies.
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:56) <BenjaminEdelman> Baptista, this is you first warning. Your last comment is
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:56) inappropriate for this forum.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:56) This sin't over by a long shot, 19 people running cyberspace is flawed
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:56) hey Touton, isn't that considered 'on the fly'?>
<JoannaLane> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:56) what does ester dyson know about business viability?
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:56) The ny times gives away new news and charges for it when it's stale, great business model
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:56) where is the Consensus they pride themselves of being all about?
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:57) Consensus...read...ignore the pubic comments

<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:57) what about IOD's Intellectual property?
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:57) Simon, URL for ZD article?
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:57) Ben - if you want to give me warning please subcontract them to someone else - I have no interest in listening to you - the last time we were here you lied to me. You lied in public - you have non of my respect. Get Rebbcca Nesson to warn me - and stuff you warning up your ass - It's OK to slime this board
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:57) watch it develop jds ;-) they'll all be content by 3pm...
<AnthonyGallagher> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:57) Theye didn't even consider that Afilias say that their business plann is applicable to all three of their choises.
<BenjaminEdelman> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:57) Baptista, you used profanity in your most recent message.
<BenjaminEdelman> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:57) That too is not appropriate here.
<BenjaminEdelman> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:57) This is your final warning.
<BenjaminEdelman> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:58) With your next inappropriate comment,
<BIFF> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:58) HEY WHYT IS WRONG WITH BITNET? IT IS AWSOME?!?!?
<BenjaminEdelman> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:58) I'll be obliged to ask you to leave the forum, and I'll use all available technical measures to assure that you do so.
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:58) ben & joe, please go private
<MatthewPappas> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:58) Biff, no argument from me.
<BenjaminEdelman> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:58) Again, folks, please see the explanatory text at the start of this forum
<BenjaminEdelman> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:58) for a reminder of the appropriate tone of discussion here.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:58) for what I am being robbed out of I might as well get myself tossed BEN lol
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:58) Lots of profanity has been used here over the last two days - I've seen no warning from your ben - and stop sending me private messages in IRC - you want to say something - do it in public - this board desearves our profanity
<BIFF> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:59) we dont need to see you slap Joe, Ben. If it is Joe that is. I heard he wasn't around today.
<BIFF> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:59) John is right. do it in private
<BIFF> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:59) .sex isn't commercialy viable? too rich? This is technical coordination?
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:59) .sucks
<MarciaArbott> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 12:59) My scribe is stuck
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:00) I am not interested in private talk with someone who has lied to me in public.
<KevinAllen> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:00) afilias.sucks
<MatthewPappas> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:00) "the board is not in the business of promoting free speech" says esther
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:00) AfiliasSucks.com
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:00) It is in the business of protecting commercial trademark entitlement. Oh, I get it now.
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:00) there we go affilias.sucks is profanity - have you warned him too Ben
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:00) Not interested in free speech, but IP protection, that's important
<DaveLizmi> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:00) some lucky guy/gal owns that gem
<GaryOsbourne> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:01) heh Judith, you beat me
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:01) To even thin about taking away someones work of 5 Years is beyond me
<BIFF> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:01) haha, good one gary
<Lewco> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:01) lol cow
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) what did they pick tucows already
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) BINGO. So maybe they should let the market decide. duh ...
<BIFF> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) let's ignore the fact that free speech is guarenteed by the US constitution, what's important - clearly here, is the TM stuff DOC made they talk about
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) daah .web
<RayFassett> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) YES
<RayFassett> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) including NSI
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) great point from esther
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) Where is Chris Ambler?
<rlm> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) yeah I guess the first amendment needs a clause, free speech only when its not treading on tms
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) spit it out Esther
<jd> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:02) maybe it should be
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:03) In front of me, JDS, can I slap him for you? ;-)
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:03) one tld per app isn't the same as one string per registry ... huh?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:03) I feel for him I really do I couldn't imagine the frustartion
<DenaWhitebirch> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:03) per applicant or per application?
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:03) JDS, this may all be a waste of time
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:03) those apps that use tucows as registry won't conflict...
<MatthewPappas> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:03) i'm surprised Ambler is not on chat with us.
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:03) ICANN make recommendation, DoC make decision
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:04) IOD has jumped through every hoop when asked what a crock
<KristyMcKee> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:04) Geeesh - No wonder they havn't gotten anything done in the past two years
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:04) Chris has commitment of my allowance and milk money - I will go without - to help fund his court case ...
<JohnFrangie> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:04) Chris is sitting right next to me.
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:04) Hello Mr Frangie
<JohnFrangie> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:04) Hello
<MatthewPappas> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:04) Fockler: "every company is supporting free speech." what?
<rlm> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:04) hurrah for larry :) says dyson
<JohnBerryhill> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:04) John, are you there physically?
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:04) I have felt for some time that other avenues will need to be explored
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:05) One problem with IOD application is that it's a bit lame - it was tailored for ICANN and not for IOD
<ORSC_Hostmaster> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:05) http://www.open-rsc.org/icannot.pdf
<JohnFrangie> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:05) Yes
<Simon_Higgs> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:05) Keep posting that URL
<ORSC_Hostmaster> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:05) they all are, Joe
<JoannaLane> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:05) it isn't over until the fat lady sings
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:05) I know that IOD has wanted to do everything asked of them but this is FIXED
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:05) I know they all are - that's a mistake.
<ORSC_Hostmaster> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:06) when writing an ICANN app (and I worked on a couple) you don't write what is best for thr Internet you write what you thinik ICANN will accept. That's why they all have that stoopid sunrise in them
<JDS> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:06) IOD works for me Keep it simple
<YangWooKo> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:07) i agree with ORSC???
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:07) #scribe
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:07) #Scribe
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:07) grr
<rlm> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:07) yeah considering that just about every word in the english language has some sort of trademark on it...
<AndrewMoulden> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:07) help?
<rlm> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:08) what is going to be left to register lol
<baptista> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:08) That was a mistake - one of my main objections is with the wording in most applications - in the case of IOD they were applying to be a TLD - well they already are a TLD and they have obligations which superceed ICANN agreements - if not legal at least moral. They were first.
<JudithOppenheimer> (Thu, November 16, 2000 at 13:08) ORSC - pretty good copy, clean, simple
