About Bryan and Mario

Bryan Kirschner is Director of Open Source Strategy at Microsoft Corp. He has been a leader in Microsoft's efforts to establish deep cross-domain expertise as a basis for engagement with commercial and non-commercial open source communities. He is responsible for development of a global community of practice inside and outside of Microsoft for users and developers of open source software and academic researchers on open source approaches.  He is a member of the Open Source Software Lab at Microsoft team and an active blogger on Microsoft and open source on Port25, the lab's web portal (http://port25.technet.com). He has a previous background in public policy analysis. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Yale University.

Mario is Open Source Licensing Counsel for Microsoft where he provides counsel to Microsoft's product development teams on open source legal and community issues and helps formulate Microsoft's open source software policies and management infrastructure.  Prior to his current role he was the Open Source Research and Policy Lead for Microsoft's Platform Community Strategy Team.  Prior to joining Microsoft, Mario was Senior Counsel at the Seattle office of Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt where he specialized in complex civil litigation and appeals.  Mario is a member of the Washington and Oregon Bars.  He holds a J.D. from Willamette University College of Law and an M.A. and B.A. in philosophy from University of Arizona.
