Dear Professor Berkowitz,

Dean Knowles has asked me to respond to your letter of August 27.

The grievance procedures of the Faculty, enclosed, permit a complaint to be filed on the basis "that proper procedures have not been followed in decisions regarding promotion or reappointment." Would I be correct in assuming that your letter was intended to be a formal complaint pursuant to those procedures? If so, please let me know so that I may take the required administrative action.

I would be happy to try to respond to questions you may have, or otherwise be of assistance.
