Dear Charlie,

I am writing to you about the draft letter to the Joint Committee on Appointments from you, and Messrs. Fineberg [sic] and Berkowitz, posted on the Berkman Center Web site, in which you ask the Committee to reconsider the Berkowitz tenure review process.

The issues you raise in your draft letter involve a faculty member of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the tenure review process of that Faculty. If Professor Berkowitz has concerns abut that process, I would suggest that he inquire of the Dean of the FAS as to whether these concerns are covered by FAS procedures. I am afraid the Joint Committee on Appointments is not an available or appropriate forum for this matter.
