Outlook vs. Gmail

I'm now using Gmail rather than outlook to manage my email for several reasons

  • Outlook isn't a sustainable system, once you've used it for a couple years the program becomes outrageously slow sometimes taking several minutes to start up and shut down.
  • Gmail is more secure. I have a ton of emails that are extremely important. Using outlook means those emails are stored locally on my machine and are therefore subject to my clumsiness, forgetfulness and the vagaries of hardware life. In other words, I could drop my laptop, leave it somewhere, get it stolen or just have it's harddrive die :( (p.s. if you want help backing up your outlook system email dboyer @ law)
  • Gmail's interface is vastly superior to Outlook's. Gmail also has a vastly superior
  • Even if you think gmail is better one problem may be making the switch. If you already have a ton of emails
  • I have ideological opposition to using microsoft products, primarily because I believe they are shoddily programmed, imho, outlook is no exception. They store the outlook.pst file in a way that makes it difficult to use by other systems.
  • Gmails label system is better than outlooks folder system because one email can have more than one label.
