In response to Google's rise Omissions generally. Significance. Prior research. Google's "All About Google" site offers some information as to reasons for exclusions from Google's index, including index glitches, sites unreachable during indexing, a drop in links to a site, and attempts to defraud Google's page-ranking systems. Google also discloses that it removes pages and sites in response to DMCA infringement notifications. The author's prior research ("Localized Google Search Result Exclusions") indicates that Google also removes pages and sites in response to pressure from certain governments and/or its perception that certain content may be deemed illegal in certain countries. Certain other discussions, including thread in Search Engine World, indicate that sites have recently been dropped from Google for reasons including use of domain names that had recently expired were subsequently re-registered.
