"Poll Says Cross is Unfamiliar Symbol"
Boston Globe, August 26, 1995

The golden, M-shaped logo for McDonald's and the fan-shaped logo for Shell Oil Co. are better know symbols than the Christian cross, according to a survey of 7,000 people in the United States, Australia, Germany, Japan, India and the United Kingdom. But even more recognized is the linked-rings symbol for the Olympics, according to the survey by London-based Sponsorship Research International.

The survey found that 92 percent of those polled correctly identified the Olympic symbol, 88 percent know the McDonald's and Shell logos and 54 percent identified the Christian cross.
