Multimedia Networking, The Big Picture

Karl Auerbach, Multimedia Network Architect at Cisco Systems and member of the California Bar.

We are starting to see a significant shift in the way that entertainment grade content is being delivered to consumers. This shift will allow more 'small fry' to become significant suppliers of entertainment grade content. Mr. Auerbach gave an overview of current multimedia distribution technology with an emphasis on one-way distribution of media streams rather than on conversational and interactive applications. He then explored the question of what these technological advances could mean for the economics of intellectual property, and how government regulation may or may not fit in.
